In this episode of the MaroonCast we’re going to focus on Central’s Jazz Fest that just took place on Saturday, April 26th. You’ll hear interviews of band directors, parents, and our Guest Artist, Mark Colby. And of course we’ll also listen to a number of selections performed by Central’s Jazz Bands.

Come to the 39th Annual Champaign Central High School Jazz Fest on Saturday, April 26th at Central High School. Doors open at 5pm and the last band plays at 9:15pm. We hope to see you there!

In this episode of the MaroonCast we talk to representatives from the Essentially Ellington Jazz Band Festival. Martin Hundley, an education representative from Jazz at Lincoln Center provides information about the Essentially Ellington Jazz Band Festival, and Rodney Whitaker, Director of Jazz Studies at Michigan State University, talks to us about his involvement with the festival.

In this episode of the MaroonCast we share recordings of the Champaign Central High School Wind Symphony performing Nitro and Carmina Burana at the March 12th Music In Our Schools Month Concert. Mr. Jeff Dare, Central’s Choir Director, also shares his feelings on the collaborative effort of performing Carmina Burana with the Central’s Choirs and the Wind Symphony.

In this episode we speak with Jeff Zahos, a percussion instructor at Champaign Central High School, about his career as a musician and audio engineer. Jeff shares his ideas about how students can get into audio recording as a career and as a hobby. This episode also contains several sample recordings of Jeff’s work as an audio engineer of various groups, musical genres, and recording spaces.
